Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. (Habakkuk 3:18) Joy is a choice. Far too many situations are beyond our control. However, we can choose to have joy. The prophet Habakkuk demonstrates what it is to choose joy. He acknowledges the dire straits that he is in. He recognizes the disasters around him. Yet, he chooses to rejoice. Listen to what the rest of the passage says: “Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labor of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: 18 Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.” (Habakkuk 3:17-18) He basically announces: "If I can't find joy anywhere else, I will rejoice in the God of my salvation." Yet joy is the most powerful joy because it has detached itself from circumstance and condition. What is it in your life that would go before "yet?" Now, choose to have joy anyhow!
