![]() “God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” (John 4:24) It is a good thing that we take time out to worship God. Yet, I encourage us to ensure that when we do, we are worshipping Him in “spirit and truth.” For, it is so easy for even prayer and devotion to become routine, or just one more thing on our list. So, let us bring life to our daily time with God, excitement and vigor, because we serve a living God! He is so excited to spend time with us and longs for us to be in his presence. “Therefore the LORD longs to be gracious to you; therefore He rises to show you compassion, for the LORD is a just God. Blessed are all who wait for Him..” (Isaiah 30:18) When we go before God we should enter into His presence with such joy and excitement. He is not part of our checklist because without Him there is no list. Spending time with Him is not just one more thing to do, it is the only thing we do that matters. That daily reading of the chapter is a very excellent thing; but do you read with your soul as well as with your eyes? That morning prayer and that evening prayer, those few minutes snatched in the middle of the day— these are good. I will not wish you to alter the regularity of your devotion, but still it may all be clockwork, godliness with no life in it. Oh, for one single groan from the heart! It may have more prayer in it than the careful words we lift up in prayer. Although, there may be prayer there too if the heart uses them before the living God with sincerity. Charles Spurgeon Dear Lord, breathe new life into our devotion and prayer. We worship you in “spirit and truth!” GiGi❤️
