![]() But someone will say, "You have faith, and I have works." Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. (James 2:18) If we are seeking to have faith that works, we must be able to define it before we can apply it. So, what then, is this faith that works? Let's try the following as a "working" definition: "Faith that works is an unwavering trust or assurance put into action which relies on and expects God to work." None of these words are wasted. First of all, faith that works is fundamentally trust in God. It is not only an intellectual assent to certain articles. It is not merely the memorization of official dogma and doctrine. It is not even the proof of the truth of your denominational heritage. Faith that works is trust in God. Notice that the trust is in God. Faith that works does not rest upon the platitudes of Plato. It does not stand upon the sayings of Shakespeare. It does not depend upon the purchasing power of dead presidents. It does not blindly lean upon the laws of nature or the laws of men. Faith that works put its trust in and on God. It is an assurance that He is always there. It is a knowledge that He already knows about your needs. It is a confidence that He can do something about your condition. It is belief that no impossibility is beyond His power. It is a personal relationship based on personal experience which believes that God is who He says He is and does what He says He will. As we search for that kind of faith that works, let us make the words of the old song our mantra. I will trust in the Lord. I will trust in the Lord. I will trust in the Lord until I die. I will trust in the Lord. I will trust in the Lord. I will trust in the Lord until I die. Pastor Ben🙏🏽
