But the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice. (1King 19:11-12, KJV) How is it possible to hear God's still small voice with the clutter of anxious thoughts, or when weighed down with emotion? Being present is such a stress reliever as it reduces anxiety. It allows us to hear God’s still small voice without all of the distraction. Being present also relieves us of the emotional burdens that we bring with us from the past. We cannot live in the past and be present at the same time. When we are present we can give over our anxious and depressive thoughts to the Lord. There is no way of stopping the thoughts from continually coming but we can stop them from overtaking us. In the initial phase of getting alone in the silence, you learn to let the thoughts come, and then you give them up. You let them go because they are the seedbed of distraction. We handle them by releasing them and allowing God to take them. GiGi❤️
