“I know, my God, that you test the heart and are pleased with integrity. All these things I have given willingly and with honest intent.” (1 Chronicles 29:17a, NIV) The foundation of every relationship should be built on honesty and truthfulness which fosters feelings of trust and safety. When we hide ourselves from others, when we choose not to be vulnerable, then we deny the relationship the authenticity that it deserves. One of the reasons we hold back is because of past hurt and pain. We might be afraid of rejection, abandonment, or of being hurt all over again. Yet, we have already been provided the roadmap of a healthy relationship through our relationship with God. He left us breadcrumbs that lead us to exactly what love should look like in any relationship so that we don’t get lost in it all. He never told us that anything was required of us in order for Him to love us,”You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.” (Romans 5:6, NIV) and “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” (John 15:13) His love for us is a selfless love, “He truly and simply just cares about us, with no strings attached.” This might be difficult for some of us to understand because we are so accustomed to expecting reciprocity in our relationships, “What am I going to get out of it?” There is no guarantee that we will never get hurt again. But one thing is certain, that if we can be our authentic selves in our relationships, honest and true, we will always be healthy and possess integrity in those relationships. We might have been hurt, disappointed, and cast down, but we know that after we have been tried in the fire, the ability to love will be fortified. We will be able to say, “I know how to give of myself without expecting anything in return.” “I am willing to be vulnerable again.” “I know what love looks like.” “Love is patient and kind; love is not envious; loves does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”(1 Cor 13:4-6) GiGi❤️
