“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:11)
Self-awareness is directly related to self-acceptance. Our ability to see ourselves, regulate our emotions, particularly in how we treat and communicate to others is enhanced by our ability to accept who we are, the good, bad, and ugly. Self-acceptance facilitates self-compassion which leaves very little room for self-judgment. “For all of us have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23) When we submit those things which are not like Jesus to the Lord, how much more will we be able to accept others for who they are, without judgment. Once we have learned to be more self-compassionate then compassion for others flows so much more easily. We are then able to edify, build up and encourage versus tear down. “Instead of mercilessly judging and criticizing ourselves for various inadequacies or shortcomings, self-compassion means we are kind and understanding to ourselves when confronted with personal failings. Having compassion for ourselves means that we honor and accept our humanness and others as well. Things will not always go the way we want them to. We will encounter frustrations, losses will occur, we will make mistakes, bump up against our limitations, and fall short of our ideals. This is the human condition, a reality shared by all of us. The more we open our heart to this reality instead of constantly fighting against it, the more we will be able to feel compassion for ourselves and all our fellow humans in the experience of life.” All of us have sinned and fallen short. It is time to build up, not tear down. GiGi❤️
