Let us be careful my brothers and sisters in what we delight ourselves in. How easy we are enticed or cajoled into believing that money is the key to happiness and an indicator of true success. It can be a treacherous road to travel to acquire it and once you have it, trying to keep it and grow can be even more tempestuous. The child of God should take care that he/she does not set their affection on things on the earth, but assuredly on things above. (Colossians 3:2-3) Spurgeon was succinct when he wrote: Colossians 3:1. If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Your Lord and Master has gone up to heaven. You profess that he represents you, and that you have gone up there in him and with him. Then do not seek the things that are down here below, the things of earth; but live where your life has gone. Where your treasure is, there let your heart be also. “Seek those things which are above.” Colossians 3:3. And your life is hid with Christ in God. "Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” (James 4:13-15, NIV) “Let us not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” (Galatians 6:7-9) It may be time to exhale, be still, be silent, and set your affection on things above, not the husband, wife, children, car, house, job, money, etc., but on Christ!
