“The eyes of man are never satisfied.” (Proverbs 27:20)
Have you ever stated, “If I just had [blank] I wouldn’t need anything else!” Yet, after receiving [blank] you moved on to the next want. The discipline of wanting is necessary in a society that cries, “Give me, give me, give me,” and “I want, I want, I want.” Yes, we are insatiable by nature and impatient with our needs and wants. There is a story about a farmer whose farm was on its last leg after losing animals to sickness and crops to disease. Just when he had given up hope his goose laid a golden egg. He couldn’t believe it and thought it was a joke. He picked the egg up and threw it against the side of the barn in disgust that someone would play such a trick on him. The egg just bounced around indestructible. He decided to take the egg to an appraiser and found out the egg was made of pure gold. Excited, the man returned to his barn and found the goose had laid another egg. He became a rich man many golden eggs later but that was not enough. He wanted to build more barns and accumulate more wealth faster but the goose wasn’t producing the eggs fast enough. He decided to cut the goose open to retrieve the eggs only to learn there were none. Not only were there no eggs but also, there was no longer a goose. His impatience and greed had been his undoing. It is important that we understand our nature. None of us are exempt. We don’t want to spend too much of our time and energy moving from one want or desire to the next along with the frustration of not receiving what we want fast enough. If we are not careful, wanting and the frustration of not having can produce a heart that is contrary to the things of God. A heart of gratitude and thanksgiving is the cure all so that, like Paul, we can learn to be content in whatever situation we find ourselves. Dear Lord, help us to be satisfied with what you have given us. We praise you Lord for your provision, “all of your benefits, for the forgiveness of our iniquity, healing our diseases, redeeming our lives from the pit, and for your unfailing and steadfast love and mercy. You have satisfied us and renewed us like the eagles.” Lord, we are grateful! GiGi❤️
