For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.” (Luke 6:45) If we want to change the way we talk to others and the way we talk to ourselves, we have to work on our hearts. “It is the heart that has influence on the tongue. If the heart is vain and earthly, the tongue will be also; if the heart is holy, the tongue will be so…get a better heart, and you get a better tongue.” The tongue is a powerful instrument and has the ability to speak life into a person or situation or speak death. (Proverbs 18:21) Thomas Brooks provided these tidbits in the 1600s and they are still relevant today:
A tender heart will bring forth a tender empathetic response. How do we better the heart? We better the heart by spending more time in God’s Word. “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.” (John 17:17) GiGi❤️
