Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. (Matthew 5:9)
Have you noticed that if you spend enough time with someone that you might pick up some of their habits or be influenced by their way of thinking or perspective? One might use the phrase, “she’s rubbed off on me”. There is also a phenomenon of emotional influence called emotional contagion, where we mimic or mirror someone’s feelings, emotions, and attitude. Some professionals refer to this experience as absorbing or mirroring other’s emotions. We enter into the interaction one way and walk away feeling and thinking another way. Emotional contagion can happen consciously and unconsciously. Avoiding it will require us to be present so that we are aware of it occurring. Avoiding it will require us to put on the whole armour of God to maintain peace within ourselves and with others. That, in and of itself is a mindset and a heart set. But we are up to the task, for God is the author and the originator of peace and places it in our hearts, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27) Lord, help us to be present and aware of what’s going on in real time so that we can be your peacemakers. GiGi❤️
