Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. (Matthew 5:9)
Have you noticed that if you spend enough time with someone that you might pick up some of their habits or be influenced by their way of thinking or perspective? One might use the phrase, “she’s rubbed off on me”. There is also a phenomenon of emotional influence called emotional contagion, where we mimic or mirror someone’s feelings, emotions, and attitude. Some professionals refer to this experience as absorbing or mirroring emotions. We may be experiencing a good day or moment but our interaction with someone who is emotionally struggling with theirs can influence our state of being. Oh how quickly we can move from calmness to a state of agitation. Although, the opposite can occur as well. We may experience a sour mood and become uplifted by someone’s positivity. Emotional contagion can happen consciously and unconsciously. If we are present we can maintain our peace when negativity enters our space or embrace the positivity during a negative emotional experience. In either setting, we are up to the task to be peacemakers. For, God is the author and the originator of peace and places it in our hearts, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27) Lord, help us to be present and aware of what’s going on in real time so that we can be your peacemakers. Now let’s go out and make peace today! GiGi❤️
