“And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:7)
In the natural there is no harmony outside of God. There is disorder and chaos. We need the power of God to bring order to our lives. In those moments we have to submit our will, our thoughts, and our desires to Him so that we can usher in peace. An old quote conveys that peace is not the absence of disorder and chaos but peace is maintaining calm in the presence of it. There is an old fable about a monk who was praised by the village when he visited. They gave him food and gifts and called out to him about how wonderful and good he was. He replied, “Is that so? Is that so?” One day a young girl from the village visited the monk and cried to him that she was having a child out of wedlock. The father refused to marry her and had left the village and she knew her family would reject her when they found out. The monk offered the girl a back room in his hut so that she would not be homeless and destitute. When the villagers learned what was going on, they reviled the monk. When he entered the village they screamed names at him, “You dirty old man. You have brought shame to us,” and threw rotten fruit at him. The monk replied, “Is that so? Is that so?” Soon the father of the baby returned to the village and repented of not having done the right thing by the girl and his child. He went to his family and begged their forgiveness. The next time the monk visited the village, the villagers praised him once again and offered him gifts. He replied, “Is that so? Is that so?” Charles Spurgeon wrote: “O man, you cannot get your heart right, you cannot get your conscience right, you cannot get your understanding right, you cannot bring your various powers to their bearings and make them act in true harmony till first you are right with God…There is now a ruling power which keeps the man in order so that within him there is the ‘peace of God, which passeth all understanding.’” GiGi❤️
