In everything the prudent acts with knowledge, but a fool flaunts his folly. (Proverbs 13:16, ESV)

When executing acceptance there is value in pausing, or stopping to think before we act or respond. Acting in our emotions is seldom productive but being prudent brings about positive results.

“Learning to pause is the first step in the practice of Radical Acceptance. A pause is a suspension of activity, a time of temporary disengagement when we are no longer moving toward any goal. You can pause anytime: The pause can occur in the midst of almost any activity and can last for an instant, for hours or for seasons of our life.”

The pause is vitally important, as Charles Spurgeon once said, doing so helps “us to discern between right and almost right.”

“There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.” (Proverbs 14:12)
