“Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life." (Acts 11:18)

Repentance is a gift from God. It is defined as sincere remorse and regret. “Repentance unto life is repentance that gives life to a dead spirit…this repentance ensures eternal life;”

But then there is a false repentance, one in which someone can “almost be persuaded,” with one foot in the door and another one out. Also, there is a repentance where someone can repent but then return to their old ways.

We thank God today that repentance is the way of a Christian life. We are grateful that we can go before the Lord and get that thing right with Him. We have learned that He will not allow us to rest until we do.

“A certain man named Ahab coveted the vineyard of his neighbor Naboth, who would not sell it for a price, nor make an exchange. He consulted with his wife Jezebel, who contrived to put Naboth to death, and thus secure the vineyard to the king. After Naboth was put to death, and Ahab had taken possession of the vineyard, the servant of the Lord met Ahab, and said to him, "Hast thou killed, and also taken possession. Thus saith the Lord, in the place where the dogs licked the blood of Naboth shall the dogs lick thy blood, even thine. Behold, I will bring evil upon thee, and will take away thy prosperity "We read that Ahab went awe, and humbled himself; and the Lord said, "Because Ahab humbleth himself before me I will not bring evil in his days." He had granted him some kind of mercy; but we read in the very next chapter that Ahab rebelled, and in a battle in Ramoth-Gilead, according to the servant of the Lord, he was slain there; so that "the dogs licked his blood in the very vineyard of Naboth.”

Real repentance is a “lifelong act.” It brings with it sorrow and it humbles us. We hate the transgression just as the Lord hates it.
