“Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD!” (Psalm 27:14)
Radical Acceptance is a psychological term that means to put forth a conscious effort to accept the difficulties that life can bring. To practice it, one must accept reality, the good, the bad, and the ugly. This level of acceptance allows one to move toward a mindset of contentment and experience less distress and anxiousness, a feeling that there needs to be a response or a reaction. Our ability to wait on God and trust Him for the outcome encompasses the idea of Radical Acceptance. It is when we understand our limitations, fully accept things as they are, and acknowledge God’s unlimited power, that we are able to pray and give those things over to the Lord. Then, and only then, are we able to enter into the state of faithfully waiting on Him. “Wait awhile, then. Wait in prayer, however. Call upon God, and spread the case before him; tell him your difficulty, and plead his promise of aid. Express your unstaggering confidence in him; wait in faith, for unfaithful, untrusting waiting, is but an insult to the Lord. ..Wait in quiet patience, not murmuring because you are under the affliction, but blessing God for it; never murmuring against the second cause, as the children of Israel did against Moses; never wish you could go back to the world again, but accept the case as it stands, and put it as it stands simply and with your whole heart, without any self-will, into the hand of your covenant God, saying, ‘Now, Lord, not my will, but thine be done.’” Charles Spurgeon “Fully accepting things as they are, instead of ignoring, avoiding, or wishing the situation were different, can be a critical step in moving through a difficult experience to experiencing more meaning.” Wait for the Lord!
