![]() And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall grow cold. (Matthew 24:12) Oftentimes, when we read about disturbing stories of senseless crime and murder, we think of Matthew 24:12. We may think, “surely, these are the last day.” Yet, Spurgeon contends that the “love of many” that the scripture is referring to is the love among believers, the church. You see, the world is doing what the world does, commit evil. Our hope is that evil does not pour over into the church and manifest this warning. Let us be careful and diligent that we don’t become desensitized and normalize evil. The child of God should be prayerful, without ceasing, for the enemy goes about as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. We must be watchful that we don’t call that which is evil good and good evil. Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! (Isaiah 5:20) If the majority are warm, then the cold ones are thawed, but if they are all below zero, then they freeze into a wretched compactness! It is the most sober, respectable Church you ever knew—there’s no fighting - everything is so comfortable and orderly. Alas, they are frozen together, and their peace is that of death! The love of the many has grown cold and they are full of mutual admiration for their quietness. They have nobody to rebuke them. If the many have grown cold, then the few among them, instead of being able to rebuke with authority, are themselves snubbed. "He is a terribly fanatical young man! That zealous brother never leaves anyone alone!" "He will grow out of that," says one, "by the time he gets to my age he will be as prudent as I am." When the church is silenced, then we are in the last days; when evil is no longer rebuked and when the gospel ceases to be spread. The lamp is snuffed out and the salt has lost its savor. Let us pray! Let’s not shake our heads in disbelief and become numb from hearing about one atrocity after another. Charles Spurgeon Dear Lord, help us to pray, pray without ceasing. Help us to stop whatever we are doing and pray, pray in our closets, pray in our cars, pray at our desks, pray instead of eating, pray instead of entertainment. Because, we know that when we call on you, you will hear us. When we seek you, we will find you, when we seek you with our whole heart. (Jeremiah 29:12-13) GiGi❤️
