![]() Rewriting negative messaging is the healing we receive through reading and studying the word of God. We are shaped by the negative messaging we received as children from our parents, siblings, or teachers. We tend to play these messages over and over in our thoughts. This can lead to feelings of fear, anger, shame, guilt, and hopelessness. In turn, these feelings have led many of us to make decisions that have led to regret, fueling those same feelings even the more. Yet, there is no greater coping strategy than the Word of God. It helps us to cope with the pains of the past. 1 Corinthians 13:7a, “Love bears all things,” or “Love covereth all things.” Cover is the Greek meaning of the word, bears. “The two ideas may be blended, if we understand it to mean that love bears all things in silence as it conceals all injuries or imperfections.” “True love refuses to see faults, unless it is to help remove them. Love has no desire to see faults. Noah's younger son discovered and declared the shame of his father, but his other sons took a garment and went backward and covered the nakedness of their father: after this fashion does love deal with the sins of her brethren. Love is aware of the imperfections but doesn’t dwell on them. It never proclaims the errors.” Yet, there are some who are more eager to publish the negative about people than they are the gospel. At the same time, we can be more eager to focus on the negative in ourselves than what God sees in us. “Love stands in the presence of a fault, with a finger on her lip. If anyone is to smite a child of God, let it not be a follower of Christ. More importantly, let it not be ourselves. Because of God’s forgiveness, “love covers all injuries by being silent about them, and acting as if they had never been.” Remember the story of the Samaritan woman who had five husbands? “Jesus sat on the well and talked with her, and made himself her willing companion that he might be her gracious Saviour; he ignored her sin so far as to converse with her for her good.” GiGi❤️
