Judge not, that ye be not judged. (Matthew 7:1)
There are similarities between blaming and judging. Both are used as a “weapon or shield.” Both entail taking the attention off ourselves and redirecting it toward others. Hence, blaming is the foundation of judging.”Blame is holding someone responsible or finding fault for a perceived wrong. The word judging has several meanings. There is a type of judgment that is more akin to discernment. This type of judgment is essential for our survival. It is the use of godly wisdom and common sense to discern between right and wrong, should I stay or go, or if something is authentic or fake. This type of judgment is absent of blame or condemnation. When the Word of God instructs us not to judge, as stated in Matthew 7, it refers to criticizing or condemning with an attitude of self-righteousness or superiority. Here is a great illustration of the critical type of judging: A young couple moved into a new neighborhood. The next morning, while eating breakfast, the young woman saw her neighbor hanging the washing outside. “That laundry is not very clean; she doesn’t know how to wash correctly. Perhaps she needs better laundry soap.” Her husband looked on, remaining silent. Every time her neighbor hung her washing out to dry, the young woman made the same comments. A month later, the woman was surprised to see a nice clean wash on the line and said to her husband, “Look, she’s finally learned how to wash correctly. I wonder who taught her?” The husband replied, “I got up early this morning and cleaned our windows.” Oswald Chambers taught: “Do we really believe the Word of God when it says we criticize in others the very things we are guilty of ourselves…‘Yes, all those, as well as other evils, would have been exhibited in me if it were not for the grace of God. Therefore, I have no right to judge.’” You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things. (Romans 2:1) Dear Lord, may we be quick to pray and stand in the gap for others rather than judge them. Amen! GiGi❤️
