![]() “Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.” (Mark 9:24). It is a wonderful thing to see God’s blessings manifested, not only in our lives, but in the lives of others as well. We rejoice when they rejoice as it strengthens our faith that, if God can do that for them, I know, he can also bless me. But then, there comes this great challenge, perhaps the biggest obstacle we have ever faced, the widest river we have ever had to cross, and the tallest mountain we have ever had to climb. We have cried and we prayed, prayed and we cried but it still looms. We might consider all of the things we have ever done wrong and try to get those things right so that nothing stands between us and God. Finally we pray, “God’s will be done.” Perhaps we pray this prayer because we don’t think ourselves worthy of the blessing. Perhaps we pray this prayer just in case we don’t have enough faith. There was a leper in Mark 1:40-42. This poor man was covered with a sad and foul disease, when he said to Jesus, "Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean." He had full faith in Christ's ability, but he had some doubts as to Christ's willingness. Our Saviour looked at him, and though he might very well have rebuked him that he should doubt his willingness, he merely said, "I will, be thou clean," and straightway he was made whole of that loathsome plague. If there is one who is grievously defiled or openly disgraced by sin, and sees the leprosy upon them, and says, "I believe he could save me if he would"? Do you have some lingering doubt about the Saviour's willingness? Yet, I ask you to pray this prayer, "Lord, I believe, I believe thy power. Help thou mine unbelief which lingers round your willingness." Then little as your faith is, it will save you. Jesus, full of compassion, will pity even your unbelief, and accept what is faith, and forgive what is unbelief. Yes, God will accept our faith and all we need is a little. With him all things are possible, so let us step out on faith and ask God to bless our unbelief. GiGi❤️ C.H. Spurgeon, At the Metropolitan Tabernacle, Newington.
