“The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” (James 5:16)
We are saved today because somebody prayed for us. Why, even our desire to engage in this devotion might be due to the prayers of others. That heaviness that was lifted yesterday, that pain that subsided, the relationship that was mended, the child that came back home, all due to intercessory prayer because we know that we were too heavy to pray for ourselves. . “How was it that you were converted? It was because somebody else prayed for you. I trace back my own conversion, and know it was through God’s Spirit, to the prayers of my mother. There are many of you that were prayed for when you were asleep in your cradles as unconscious infants. There are husbands here who owe their conversion to their wives’ prayers; brothers who must acknowledge that it was a sister’s pleading; children who must confess that their Sunday school teachers prayed for them. Now, if by others’ prayers you and I were brought to Christ, how can we repay this Christian kindness, but by pleading for others?” (Charles Spurgeon) Truly, it is our responsibility to pray for others.
