"So Abram departed, as the Lord had spoken to him..." (Genesis 12: 4a) The second sign of faith that works is that it leaves. It is clear from the last few verses of Genesis 11 that Abraham was not a pauper. In fact, he and his wife Sarah lived quite a comfortable life in a town by the name of Ur. Yet, when he heard the voice of the Lord and was told: "Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will show thee", guess what he did? He packed up his stuff and left! The ease and speed with which he left boggles the mind. There must be some missing paragraphs in the text. This must be an abbreviated version of what happened. For, in one verse, we read that God says: "Go!" Then, the very next verse after God gets done talking, we read: "So Abram departed." Faith never leaves you where it finds you and furthermore, you never find the fulfillment of faith until you leave where you are. We are often stuck where we are because we refuse to leave where were are. We are limited to what we have because we cannot let go of what we have. We do not arrive at the place of promise because we continue to wallow in the place of pain. Faith that works is willing to leave the known of the here for the promise of the there. Faith that works abandons the normal for the possibilities of the extraordinary. Faith that works does not deny the past, but it presses from it towards the mark of the high calling in Christ Jesus. The voice of God calls you to leave the comfortable place, the traditional place, the safe place, the popular place, the assigned place, the known place and go forth to a new place. Faith almost always, by definition, involves leaving. Who, what, or where must you leave in order to reach the next stop on your destiny? Pastor Benjamin Morris🙏🏽
