“Give ear, O LORD, unto my prayer; and attend to the voice of my supplications.” (Psalm 86:6)
It seems like it is not until we are at our wits end that we lay before God and empty ourselves out. We no longer kick against the pricks but give him our complete surrender with moans and “groanings which cannot be uttered.” (Romans 8:26) It is during these times that we are not worried about how our prayer sounds, we are not looking for lofty words, or a setting where we can be seen and heard by others. These are the times that we steal away to our closets and let it all hang out. There is nothing between our prayer and God, just our raw faith, and hope that he will come see about us. Spurgeon wrote, “The overflowing of the soul is the best praying in the world. Prayers that are indistinct, inharmonious, broken, made up of sighs and cries, and damped with tears— these are the prayers which win with heaven.” All we have to do is pray and he will hear our humblest cry.
