“All my springs are in you.” (Psalm 87:7)
When the children of Israel entered the wilderness it was not meant for them to remain there. It was their unbelief tethered to taking their eyes off the Lord that was their stumbling block. Distraction was a menace then and continues to be a challenge for the believer today. Whether the distraction is money, person, object, or thought, it can cause the believer to be “entangled in the land and shut up in the wilderness” (Exodus 14:3). If we can hold fast to our faith, not just profess it but live it, we can make it into the promised land. The believer who delights in the Lord and yearns to be in His presence has certain victory. It is when we place our trust in others and things that we become distracted. “For now faith is the substance of things hoped for and evidence of things not seen,” (Hebrews 11:1). This is an unabashed reliance on God. Spurgeon wrote: “When we begin in the spirit we do not proceed with a hope to be made perfect in the flesh. We do not start with justification by faith, and then look for perfection by works. We do not lean on Christ when we are little children, and then expect to run alone when we are men; but we live by drawing all our stores from him, while as yet we are naked, and poor, and miserable. When most enriched by his grace, we still have to say and delight to say it, ‘all my springs are in thee.’" Let us be careful where we place our trust. GiGi❤️
